The American healthcare system is the worst of all possible worlds. Unlike every other wealthy country, the US leaves its health insurance to the private sector, where your health and your life are a distant second to shareholder profits.
The Biden administration is patting itself on the back, but the rank and file union workers have yet to agree to the deal, which does not meet their demands.
Fascism is an economic war on the international working class and the poor marked by “the fusion of transnational capital with reactionary and repressive political power,” according to Sociologist Bill Robinson.
Yet the Biden administration has not used emergency powers to fight climate change or provide COVID relief.
Eventually, long-term unemployment causes disillusionment and people find ways to survive outside of the above-ground job market. People who want work but have given up trying are excluded from the labor force as “discouraged workers.”
For a real containment of COVID-19 , a real stop to the ravages and death, the real COVID-19 science must be allowed to stand up and speak, and that will never happen as long as profit reigns supreme.
It is time for the progressive left to move beyond such hollow and aesthetic litmus tests and organize around policies and material improvements for the working class.
